Bay Leaf, also called Laurel Leaf, an aromatic leaf of the sweet bay tree (Laurus nobilis), an evergreen of the family Lauraceae.
A popular spice used in pickling and marinating and to flavour stews, stuffings, and fish, bay leaves are delicately fragrant but have a bitter taste. It can be used whole, either dried or fresh, in which case it is removed from the dish before consumption, or less commonly used in ground form.
